Dart River Adventures passengers will be taken on a 2 hour trip by jet boat down the winding braided river system of the Dart River, one of the most difficult to navigate rivers in New Zealand accessible by commercial jet boat. Be awed by magnificent snow-capped mountain peaks, concealed valleys and spectacular waterfalls. Included in this jet boating trip are stops along the way, where your friendly and knowledgeable guide will educate and entertain with informative commentary on the ancient native beech forest, the native flora and fauna unique to the region, the mysterious Maori history of the area as well it's colonial past.

- Does the Dart River jet boat safari operate in the rain? If it's raining lightly, the Dart River Wilderness Jet in Glenorchy will operate. However, if the rain becomes too heavy, the Dart River jet boat trip will not go ahead for safety reasons. In such cases, you will have the option to reschedule or receive a full refund for your Dart River jet adventure.
- What is the minimum height requirement for the Dart River Wilderness Jet tour in Glenorchy, Queenstown? The minimum height requirement of 100 cm. There is no charge for children under 5 years old on the Dart River jet boat.
- Does the Dart River Wilderness Jet tour include a 4WD drive with Lord of the Rings sightseeing and stories? The Dart River Wilderness Jet in Glenorchy includes some elements of Lord of the Rings commentary during the jet boat ride, because of it's location. However, this tour does not include a 4WD coach drive through Lord of the Rings filming locations. If you’re looking to combine Lord of the Rings with jet boating, we recommend checking out the Funyaks tour instead, which also includes an inflatable canoe tour on the Dart River.
- Can we join the Dart River Wilderness Jet tour from Glenorchy, and does the tour include pick-up from Queenstown? Yes, you can join the Dart River Wilderness Jet tour directly from Glenorchy. However, the Dart River jet tour includes optional return transfers from Queenstown to Glenorchy, if required.
- Is the Dart River Wilderness Jet Safari the same as the Shotover Jet, and can we do both? The Dart River Wilderness Jet Safari and the Shotover Jet are fairly different experiences. The Dart River jet boat is a scenic 2 hour adventure through Mt Aspiring National Park, while the Shotover Jet is a 30-minute thrilling ride through the narrow Shotover Canyons. You can definitely do both, and it is recommended to book both Dart River jet and Shotover Jet in advance to secure your preferred timeslot!
- Will the Dart River Wilderness Jet Safari be operating on Christmas Day? No, the Dart River Wilderness Jet Safari does not operate on Christmas Day itself, however this tour operates every other day of the Christmas and New Year period. Please note, this is the busiest time of year in Queenstown, so we recommend booking your spaces well in advance.
- Upgrade to the full day Funyaks option
- The minimum height requirement is 100cms (3ft) tall irrespective of child age. Can be raised to 1.2 metres with certain river conditions
- Child rates apply (5-15yrs). Infants (3-4 years) can travel on the Wilderness Safari free of charge as long as they fulfill the height requirement
- Dress warmly, especially in winter
- We advise you to take the following: Sunscreen, bottled water, hat, shades, insect repellent, and of course your camera
